What's Been Going On...

I now have all the fabrics I need for 'Easy Street'.  I started last week on it, cutting the 2" squares needed for the 4-patch blocks. I'm putting together the blocks now. I have only a handful done, so I have a long way to go (192 blocks).

I bought two cutting dies for my Accuquilt Studio cutter. One I have now, it's the 2" square cutter (1 1/2" finished size) and the other is a 2 1/2" square cutter (2" finished). I don't have that one yet, still waiting on it to arrive from Accuquilt. Can you tell I don't want to cut tiny squares?  LOL.  If I could afford it, I would get all the possible cutter dies to cut out 'Easy Street' pieces, but I know that's not
possible.  I was able to cut all the black/white squares and all the dark gray squares for the quilt in about an hour.

I don't cut fabric very well, due to my eyesight. So, when I can't use my Accuquilt cutter, all I can do is cut by hand carefully and slowly. It may take me a few weeks to cut all the triangles and squares needed for the next steps of the quilt, but I'm not in a rush. I will be WAY behind anyone else who's working on this quilt, and that's okay.

Since about the 15th of this month, I've been on a real tear--I've been buying fabric (mostly Moda) on eBay and it's been every day!  This is not like me! I've become a real fabric hog. I have to stop...I bought two yards at JoAnn Fabrics for 'Easy Street' Friday and that day in the mail I got 10 FQ and two mini charm packs.  I have two yards of retired 'Ruby' and 'Bliss' fabric coming to me via mail in a few days. On top of that, I have three Moda 'Scrap Bags' coming to me! In all, this month, I think I've bought well over 10 yards of fabric!   I MUST STOP for awhile!

In other news, I may be making a baby quilt--my first one. Mike has a nephew whose girlfriend is having his first child in July. I haven't said anything to anyone about making the quilt, so I'm not obligated. If I feel like working on a baby quilt then I will. If I do, I'm thinking of a simple pattern like Trip Around The World.

It is a fact that no one in Mike's family takes care of anything they own. They just don't. Be it a TV or a quilt, they are hard on their stuff. So, if I make a quilt, I'm not going to get attached to the thing and expect that anyone would take good care of it. I expect that within two years, I'll hear that the quilt fell apart. But, Mike's nephew and girlfriend are poor, and need everything for this baby, so if I'm in the right mood to make a quilt, they'll get one. Mike's nephew and girlfriend are supposed to find out the sex of the baby in February. After we find out, we'll be buying some clothing for the baby, it'll likely be lightly used baby clothes from eBay sellers.

Signing off--today's my 55th birthday and I'm sick...I caught a cold while out running errands these past few days. I felt horrible early today, but by 5 o'clock I could get up and was looking for something to eat. Mike and I were going to go to Olive Garden for dinner, but instead, Mike went there and got carryout. It was actually better, because I could sit here at home and enjoy the lasagne, salad and breadsticks and not have to put up with a crowd. I think later tonight before bed, I'll have a cup of tea and maybe some fruit or a light dessert.

Tomorrow--Mike is back to work after four days off. I hope to get into working on 'Easy Street' again...depends on how I feel.

Easy Street--Continued

Still haven't done any cutting for Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, 'Easy Street'.  Right now I'm buying all the fabrics. I found one purple fabric on eBay that I'm excited to use for the quilt. It's a Kaffee Fassett fabric and it's the first one of his wonderful fabrics I've bought. I have no idea when I'll get it, hopefully by this weekend. I bought a half-yard, so I'll have plenty left over for the string quilt I'm making (more on that later).

As for shopping for the other fabrics for 'Easy Street', I pulled out my back last week and haven't been feeling up to going shopping. I have been out a few times with my husband,  and let me tell ya, sitting in the car has been torture. As soon as I feel up to it, I'll be out looking for some more purple fabrics, as well as the grey, black on white, turquoise/aqua and lime green.  I don't see myself working on 'Easy Street until sometime in February.

Easy Street

This blog is for my quilting projects only. One that I'll be working on is Bonnie K. Hunter's 'Easy Street' mystery quilt. I'm not sure when I will be starting this project, but I am printing out all parts and instructions now to use later. What I have to do first is shop for the fabrics, as I don't have any in the colors Bonnie chose for this mystery. Right now, I'm putting up a badge for 'Easy Street' so that will be here in case others want to go to the instructions and start on the project themselves.
